Budget High-Carb Shopping

Whilst at university, I was skint, and always looked for the cheapest way of filling myself with crap. Today my food choices differ enormously, however I still enjoy eating on a shoe-string budget. For those students out there who have come back from a year of over-indulging and binging at university here is an example 'high-carb' shopping list that will not destroy the overdraft.

I remember having about £60 to spend per week (on everything) when I was a student, so I am going to try and keep my food allowance below £30. I will be taking the prices from a chain nationwide supermarket, the prices may vary slightly between stores.

The below list, is what I now know I could have lived off, and still be high-carb, healthy and most importantly happy

Rolled Oats- 3kg- £3.40
Brown Rice- 3kg- £4.50
Potatoes- 5kg- £2.00
Sweet Potatoes- 1kg- £1.25
Red Peppers- 5- £3.00
Frozen Spinach- 1kg- £1.40
Celery- 8 sticks- £0.80
Onions- 1kg- £0.80
Bananas x 16- £2.50
Tomatoes- 12- £1.40
Chopped Tomatoes- 8 390g cartons- £3.00
Butter Beans- 3 235g tins- £1.80
Chick Peas- 3 240g- £1.80

Total Amount- £27.65

Optionals
Rice Milk- 1 litre- £1.35.  I have water with my porridge, but you can have with rice milk if you prefer
Gluten free wraps- 4- £3.00- you can make a good veggie chilli and rice and have wraps
Vegetables/ fruit- Price varies- You can add your favorite veggies and fruit in if you can afford them.

I chose nearly all my ingredients from the value section of the supermarket. I find the difference in value eclipses any quality differences. You can make a whole bunch of tasty recipes with this food. I will be sharing them as they are made
